Choosing the right driveway material for a Sydney property means accounting for more than aesthetics. Sydney's western and south-western suburbs sit on reactive clay soils (Class M to H2 under AS 2870) that expand when wet and shrink in dry summers. Standard plain concrete, poured at 100mm thickness over a compacted gravel base with F72 steel mesh reinforcement, handles this movement well and remains the most popular and cost-effective choice at $80–$120 per m². Exposed aggregate concrete adds a decorative stone layer to the same structural slab — aggregate is seeded into the fresh concrete, the surface is washed to expose the stones, and a penetrating sealer is applied, bringing the cost to $100–$150 per m². The textured surface provides significantly better slip resistance than smooth concrete, which is why it dominates new driveway installations across the Hills District, Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills and Penrith. Brick and block pavers ($120–$200/m²) are preferred for heritage properties and estate entries, with the practical advantage that damaged units can be lifted and replaced without breaking up the entire slab. Asphalt ($40–$80/m²) is the fastest and lowest-cost hard surface, ideal for large rural or semi-rural lots in Campbelltown, Narellan and outer Liverpool, though it requires periodic resealing every 5–7 years. Natural sandstone and bluestone ($180–$280/m²) are reserved for premium entry statements and heritage restorations.
Two technical requirements often catch Sydney homeowners off-guard. First, drainage: a driveway that slopes toward a garage must have a stormwater channel drain at the base, piped to the property's approved stormwater point — this is mandatory under the Building Code of Australia. We design a minimum 1:100 cross-fall into every driveway slab and include channel drain installation in our quoted price where required. For flood-prone lots and properties where council requires water-sensitive urban design, we offer permeable paving systems — resin-bound gravel or permeable concrete — that allow water to infiltrate on-site. Second, council crossover permits: replacing an existing driveway within its current footprint is Exempt Development under the NSW Housing Code and needs no council approval. But if you are creating a new kerb crossing or widening an existing one, you need a crossing permit before work begins. We prepare the required documentation and liaise with Parramatta, Blacktown, Penrith, Hills, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Northern Beaches and Sutherland Shire councils on our clients' behalf.
Every concrete driveway we install carries a 5-year structural warranty and a 2-year warranty on the seal coat. Steel-reinforced slab, 100mm minimum thickness — built to last 30–40 years.
We hold a current NSW contractor licence and full public liability insurance. ABN: 75 644 310 547. Operating in Sydney since 2016 with hundreds of completed driveway projects.

Reinforced steel-mesh concrete poured at 100mm minimum thickness. Available in broom, trowel or stencilled finishes. The most durable and cost-effective option for Sydney homes.
Decorative aggregate stones are seeded into the concrete surface and the paste washed away to reveal a textured, slip-resistant finish. The most popular driveway upgrade in Sydney.
Concrete or clay brick pavers laid on a compacted bedding sand and edge-restrained base. Individual pavers can be lifted and replaced, making repairs straightforward and cost-effective.
Hot-mix asphalt is the most budget-friendly hard surface at $40–$80/m². Best for larger driveways where upfront cost is the primary consideration. Lifespan of 15–25 years with periodic resealing.
Premium natural stone for statement driveways and estate entries. Bluestone offers a contemporary slate-grey tone; sandstone provides warm heritage character. Sourced from NSW quarries.
Resin-bound gravel, permeable concrete or grass pavers allow stormwater to infiltrate on-site — ideal for flood-prone areas or where council requires water-sensitive urban design.
