Timber & Composite Deck Builders — Hills District, Sutherland Shire & Western Sydney
Merbau, treated pine, composite and spotted gum. Licensed NSW contractors. Free measure and quote.
Fencing and Landscaping Experts design and build timber and composite decks for homes across Sydney. Whether you want a Merbau entertainer deck in the Hills District, a composite pool surround in the Sutherland Shire, or a treated pine backyard deck in Western Sydney, we build to the Australian Standard AS1684 with structural certification for elevated and council-notifiable decks.
Sydney's climate — high UV, humid summers and dry winters — means material choice matters. Merbau and spotted gum are the most reliable hardwoods for long-term performance. Composite decking (Trex, Futurewood, Ekodeck) is the right choice for homes near water, pool surrounds, or anyone who doesn't want to oil their deck every year. We advise on the right material for your site, orientation and budget during the free quote.
In NSW, decks under 1m high and under 25m² are generally exempt development — no council approval needed. Larger or elevated decks need a DA or CDC. We handle the certifier process including structural engineering plans for Hills Shire, Sutherland Shire, Camden, Campbelltown and other Sydney councils. BAL-rated framing and materials are available for homes in bushfire-prone areas.
We build all popular deck types across Sydney. Prices are indicative — free on-site quotes provided.
From $450/m²
The most popular deck in Sydney. Dense, naturally insect-resistant hardwood with a rich red-brown colour. Handles Sydney's UV exposure and humidity well. Requires oiling every 12–18 months.
Best for: Backyards, entertainer areas, pools
From $300/m²
Cost-effective and widely available. H3-treated for above-ground use or H4 for ground contact. Takes stain or paint well — popular in Campbelltown and Western Sydney.
Best for: Budget-conscious builds, secondary decks, garden platforms
From $500/m²
Wood-plastic composite (WPC) boards by Trex, Futurewood or Ekodeck. Won't splinter, crack or fade. Slip-resistant finish available for pool surrounds. Zero oiling required.
Best for: Pool surrounds, coastal homes, low-maintenance decks
From $480/m²
Premium Australian hardwoods with exceptional durability. Spotted Gum is FSC-certified and suits both modern and traditional homes. Blackbutt is naturally fire-resistant — important for Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) zones.
Best for: Prestige homes, BAL zones, pool areas
From $550/m²
For sloping blocks common in the Hills District and Sutherland Shire. Engineered steel or timber subframe with council-approved structural plans. We handle the certifier liaison and stormwater management.
Best for: Sloping blocks, Hills District, dual-level entertaining
From $150/m²
Sagging boards, rotted bearers, loose fixings and failed posts. We repair or replace structural members, reboard with matching timber, and re-oil for a like-new result — without full demolition.
Best for: Existing tired decks, post replacement, partial reboarding
Prices include supply and install. Final cost depends on size, height, access and material. Free on-site quotes across Sydney.
Deck costs in Sydney range from $300–$450/m² for treated pine to $450–$650/m² for Merbau hardwood and $500–$800/m² for composite. A standard 30m² backyard deck costs $9,000–$20,000 including supply and installation. Elevated decks or those requiring engineering will cost more. We provide free on-site quotes with a written breakdown.
In NSW, decks under 1m high and under 25m² are generally exempt development — no DA needed. Decks over 1m high, over 25m², attached to heritage properties, or in heritage conservation areas require a Development Application (DA) or Complying Development Certificate (CDC). Requirements vary between councils. We advise on your specific LGA during the free quote.
Merbau is the most popular in Sydney — it handles UV, humidity and temperature swings well and naturally resists insects. Spotted Gum and Blackbutt are excellent alternatives with higher fire resistance. For zero maintenance, composite decking is ideal for pool surrounds and coastal homes — no oiling, no splintering.
Merbau and hardwood decks last 20–35 years with oiling every 12–18 months. Treated pine lasts 15–25 years with maintenance. Composite decking carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty and needs no oiling. All our decks use H3 or H4 treated framing for ground-contact and near-ground applications.
Yes — Hills District (Castle Hill, Kellyville, Baulkham Hills, Rouse Hill) and Sutherland Shire (Miranda, Cronulla, Caringbah, Gymea) are two of our most active areas for deck construction. We handle Hills Shire Council and Sutherland Shire Council requirements including BAL compliance for homes in bushfire zones.
